Have you always wanted to learn Igbo? Well, your wish in itself is not SMART. Let me tell you why.
‘I want to learn Igbo’ sounds like something you would like to happen sometime, someday. Whenever. However. If ever. No pressure. And that’s why it’s not likely to happen. Because it is not SMART. Like a wise man once said ‘A goal without a plan is but a mere wish’
SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time based. Is your desire to learn Igbo SMART?
Is your goal Specific? What do you want to learn? How to read and write? How to speak fluently? How to speak in your dialect? What exactly do you want to achieve?
Is your goal Measurable? How do you keep track of your progress? Ability to read with more comprehension? Number of words you can pick out when a native speaker is speaking? You can now think in Igbo? A non-measurable goal makes you feel you are not making progress.
Is your goal Attainable? Is it something you can achieve in the desired time with available resources? Are you ready to invest the time and resources it will take to achieve your goal?
How Relevant is your goal? What aspect of Igbo language is most relevant to you? Reading? Writing? Grammar and Sentence structure? Literature? Your dialect?
Finally, is your goal Time based? What period of time have you allocated for the achievement of your goals? What have you done to ensure that it will happen in that period of time? Without a time frame, how do you want to achieve it?
Remember, anytime may turn out to be never. That is why you need to take action NOW. Take advantage of our learning packages tailored to your needs and availability, along with learning resources to aid your journey and that of your children.
